Breach League Mechanic Guide
Core loop
A Breach opens a dimensional rift in the map that floods the area with Hiveborn enemies. The encounter runs on a dual-bar timer: a dark bar that always decays toward zero, and a light bar that fills as you kill enemies. Kill fast enough that the light bar outpaces the dark bar’s decay, and the combined progress hits 100% — that triggers a Stabilised Breach, which spawns a tougher wave of elite enemies followed by the miniboss Vruun, Marshal of Xesht. Defeating Vruun collapses the portal and pays out the full reward: Hiveblood, Breach Splinters, and a chance at a Wombgift.
Progression path
- Collect Breach Splinters from regular map encounters and combine them into a Breachstone.
- Use the Breachstone to reveal a Breach Domain on the Atlas — a dedicated cluster of maps containing Hive and Fortress content.
- Hive: a walled region around a breach. Break through the walls to reach the inner area, then summon Ailith and defend her while she destroys the Hive from within.
- Fortress: a larger-scale Hive with progressively harder enemy waves, leading to the Breachlords Tul and Esh as its final bosses.
- Beyond the Breachlords lies the true pinnacle of the mechanic: Xesht, reached through the High Fortress and Twisted Domain areas.
The Genesis Tree
Hiveblood collected from Breach encounters feeds the Genesis Tree, a crafting station at the Monastery of the Keepers hub with four independent branches — Rings, Amulets, Belts, and Currency. Each branch is configured separately (modifier type, minimum modifier level, base type preference) and activated by hatching a Wombgift.
Practical tips
- Prioritize movement and area coverage over pure single-target damage — Breach rewards builds that can keep killing while repositioning as enemies flood in from multiple directions.
- Running Breach-boosting Atlas tablets (particularly ones that add extra rare monsters on Stabilise) multiplies returns significantly once your Atlas passive investment is in place — the 0.5.1 fix specifically made this investment pay off correctly for the first time.
- If your build struggles with sustained single-target pressure on rares, the wave-timing at Vruun and beyond will be the harder part of the mechanic, not raw damage.
